The significance of personal and professional development can’t be overstated. It is basically the key that sets you apart from a pack and leads you on a pathway to success. We all must take time to reflect on ourselves and see what we can improve in order to be someone that others would be inspired by.
The lockdown last year was particularly hard on us. Not just because of what was happening around the world but also because most of us got subjected to “the pandemic depression and anxiety.” Some of us found solace in daily chores, while most of us became more reliant on the internet. Some even upgraded their internet plans by calling on Numero De Spectrum as their internet needs increased significantly during the pandemic.
Some of us slipped into a state of existential angst and boredom, and with that many of us got the chance to reflect on ourselves. Most of us decided to work on ourselves to attain personal growth. When we make a conscious decision to focus on personal growth, the ripple effects extend far past just ourselves. Nothing in our personal lives, in our community, nor on a larger global scale, can ever change if we refuse to grow. There is no shame in recognizing the need to change and grow for the better. In this article, we’ll share a few ways you can achieve personal growth.

Understand that you are not always right
None of us have all the answers to everything. We are all in a place of continuous learning and growing. When we allow ourselves to recognize and accept this, we are opening ourselves up to the beauty of learning with an open mind. It is important that we are able to stop and listen, learn, and grow.
There is also strength in admitting when we are wrong. There is nothing more liberating than recognizing that you are not always right, it is the first step to genuinely growing as a person.

Recognize your biases
It’s okay to admit, even if it is just to yourself that you have biases. We all do! Implicit and unconscious biases are natural, it’s human nature to have biases against something or someone. The problem with biases arises when we consciously choose to ignore them. Acknowledging our biases helps us understand them, and over time, eradicate them.
-
Responding vs. Reacting
When we react to something, we do it abruptly. We do not give ourselves enough time to think about what we are doing or saying. This is unfiltered and commonly does not get us to the desired outcome in any situation. Whereas, when we respond to something, we are taking the time to consider what we are about to say or do. A response will come slowly and generally takes into consideration every aspect of the situation at hand.
We are all guilty of reacting instead of responding sometimes. For some of us, reacting to something that we do not like is instinctual. By taking a moment to consider the situation before we react, we can respond appropriately and potentially avoid a negative situation for ourselves and others.

Choose to unlearn the things that are not serving you
This can mean anything from unlearning incorrect or incomplete “histories” that we were taught in school or unlearning biases we weren’t even aware we have learned from others. The process of unlearning is something each of us should want to embrace.
We are all human and we all have areas in which we can improve. There is no shame in wanting to crack ourselves open and let the pieces realign into something shaped and molded by what we choose for ourselves, not by what we have been told in life that has led to who we are today. To unlearn, read, observe, listen, study, and retain, that’s how we grow.

Hold yourself accountable
The only person who has control over your personal growth is you. Holding yourself accountable for your actions and the choices you make will help to keep your growth on track. You can do so by asking yourself a few important questions:
- Are my actions representative of my beliefs?
- Have I been actively acknowledging my biases?
- Have I checked in with myself lately?
- Have I done something today for someone else?
- Do I try to understand those with different beliefs?
- What have I done to offer myself forgiveness?
Wrapping Up
You need to remember that personal growth is an ongoing process. You keep on learning new things and unlearning old patterns as you grow up. What’s important is that you keep on making the effort to better yourself in order to achieve personal growth.
